Career: Navy (USA-NCAA, 1996-00), Menorca Basquet (Spain-LEB, 2000), Murcia (Spain, LEB, 2001), Tenerife Canarias (Spain-LEB, 2001-03) – Unelco Tenerife (Spain-ACB, 2003-04), Gran Canaria (Spain-ACB, 2004-06)
Sitapha (pronounced: SEE-TO-FA) has been in Spain since 2000 after graduating from Navy. During his senior season (1999-2000), he averaged 16.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for Navy and was voted into the Patriot League's First Team. At the time, Savane was playing center most of the time and was considered too undersized to get drafted. He spent three years in Spain's second league LEB, with Menorca, Murcia and Tenerife, before Tenerife climbed to the prestigious ACB league. Sitapha has started the past two seasons at Gran Canaria, where he averaged around 11 points and 5 rebounds each year.
After three good Liga ACB seasons, the Lions of Senegal this summer can count on a very athletic Savane and his valuable experience at the highest European level. But having never played with the National Team, Savane will have to adapt to the international game.
