Ernesto Mijares was a member of the National Team that competed at the 1995 World Championship for Juniors in Greece. Then he attended McLennan Community College in Texas with his countryman Rosmel Blanco before coming back to Venezuela in 1999 to play with Panteras de Miranda. Few months later, he signed a four-year contract with Valladolid in the Spanish ACB league but was loaned to Caja Zamora in the EBA (Spanish fourth division) and to La Serena in the LEB2 (third division) the following season.
But Mijares didn't reach the expectations and finally came back once again to Venezuela. He won the LPB league three times with Marinos de Oriente between 2003 and 2005 and reached the final again this season. He is a good defensive player and also possesses good passing skills.
